INSURANCE | Legal obligation to provide contractual documents in French to Quebec clients

As of June 1, 2023, your savings and retirement clients residing in Quebec and who chose English as their language of correspondence were provided the French version of their contracts before signing in English. We are now ready to begin doing the same for insurance contracts – beginning July 14, 2023 (with the exception of Assure&go products, which will be integrated later this year).

To review the email sent in May 2023, click here. Please note that in order to make it as easy as possible for you to work with your clients, the procedure adopted for insurance contracts will be the same as the one you are already familiar with for savings and retirement contracts.

Insurance – new sales

We encourage you to use EVO since the process will be done automatically for all clients residing in Quebec and who chose English as their language of correspondence.

For simplicity, we have assembled all contractual clauses into different groups. Certain groups represent a single product while others include all the coverage variants available for a single product.

Details on Assure&go sales will follow later this year.

Sales outside the electronic process

For all non-electronic insurance sales, with the exception of Assure&go products which will be integrated later this year, you must, starting July 14, provide clients with documents in French before they sign the contract in English.

To do so, please review and save this document: Insurance – Checklist for Quebec clients only. Depending on the insurance product, you must choose the correct group of contractual clauses and the corresponding application form. The above document includes an email template that will facilitate this task, if you choose this delivery method.

Important: If you are accustomed to using paper application forms, please obtain the versions dated June 2023 (23-06) as soon as possible. These versions will be mandatory beginning July 14 since they include declarations of delivery of documents in French.

Reminder: As for savings contracts, if you do not provide the client with the documents in French, the contract could be cancelled, and this could result in a significant financial loss for you and to iA Financial Group.
